| In fact homeopathy is fast and we treat fevers in the high range on regular basis. We would not be able to afford slow process in fevers. |

| To explain the myth: Homeopaths usually get to treat chronic cases and that too which have been treated by other pathies for long. In such cases the body is already treated by various medicines some of which suppress the natural symptoms of the body. Homeopathy first has to neutralize the ill-effects of these medicines before it can act. One needs to build up the immunity of the system. All this consumes some time and hence patient will experience the good effects of homeopathy late. |

| Secondly during the case-taking in homeopathy many personal questions are asked which helps to select the right medicine. Some patients may not be entirely comfortable with this and may give false or incomplete information or homeopath may not understand (or interpret) it properly and right medicine gets missed. |

| Homeopathy cannot treat acute cases |
| Homeopathy is effective in all acute cases of coughs, colds, loose-motions, headaches, gastroenteritis, fevers, measles, vertigo, bleedings, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis and is treated on regular basis in all homeopathic clinics. |

| In accordance with the homeopathic philosophy (Organon Philosophy is an important subject in homeopathic study) acute and chronic disease are the parts of the same spectrum of disease in a particular patient. So study of patient’s chronic disease and the acute fevers are both important. Also the body being one both should be treated by homeopathy. It is often seen that during the course of treatment of chronic disease the acute complaints of cough/cold or fevers decreasing. |

| In Homeopathy complaints first increase |
| When the case is well taken and evaluated there should be no aggravation or increase in complaints. The medication given slowly builds up the immunity and this problem of first increase does not occur. If at all it occurs it should be transient and patient hardly becomes aware of it. |

| In cases where suppressive therapy like steroids has been used for a prolonged period of time old symptoms come back. Patients think he has worsened but in fact the system has improved and all care is taken to make patient comfortable. |

| Homeopathic medicines contain steroids |
| Homeopathic medicines are often dispensed by white powder made from sugarcane, which looks like steroid powder. To explain away the magic-like result of homeopathy people have come up with this myth. Homeopaths having no faith in homeopathy and no missionary zeal to practice homeopathy may have used this! |

| Homeopathy has a large repertoire of medicine and is effective when practiced in a professional manner. There is no need for steroid. Philosophically the action of steroids is directly opposite to all that homeopathy stands for. A good homeopath will always advise patients to be away from it. |

| Onions/garlic/coffee/tea to be avoided when on treatment |
| There is absolutely no need to avoid onions, garlic, coffee or tea during your homeopathic treatment. Homeopathic medicines are absorbed on the tongue through its nerve endings. Hence if the mouth has a strong odor of garlic or onions it may hamper its absorption. A simple mouth rinse before taking the medicine is good enough. Our experience says that in spite of not rinsing the mouth medicine does get absorbed and the effects of medicine are seen. |

| Homeopathy is quackery and they don’t diagnose the patient |
| In India homeopathy is a 5½ yrs degree course. The subjects learnt are on similar lines of allopathy added to which are the homeopathic medicine study and philosophy. It also has a post-graduate course of MD in place which is 3 yrs residential course similar to allopathic MD. Hence this is no quackery. |

| They do need to diagnose the case as homeopathic prescription is very difficult without it and monitoring progress is impossible. |

| In cases where all investigations are normal homeopaths can treat cases with help of the symptoms present. |

| Indian government officially recognizes homeopathy which has a central council, registration ,research body attached to Health Ministry.It has above 150 colleges, homeopathic hospitals across India which does not exist anywhere in the world. |

| Homeopathy does not need investigations |
| Homeopathy needs diagnosis in order to treat and confirm that it falls in the homeopathic scope. To confirm diagnosis investigations are needed which gives a homeopath full confidence to treat the patient. |

| However considering the financial constraints of few patients a homeopath because of his clinical acumen and experience may take a calculated risk to treat without investigations. |

| Homeopathy is a placebo treatment |
| Homeopathy works well on children and infants and in acute states like diarrhea where placebo effect cannot take place. |

| Due to the in-depth history taking and personal nature of inquiry there is a relationship between patient and homeopath. This bonding itself may help patient and he may feel better. This however has limited effect. Progressive betterment is not possible. We also see changes in the investigation reports, infections and global well being as soon as constitutional medicines are given.
On the flip side as homeopaths we know if the right constitutional medicine is not right all the talk in the world does not make him better! |
