History Of Homeopathy In India:
 
     
  Homeopathy entered India in 1839. Dr. John Martin Honigberger (French) treated Maharaja Ranjit Singh for paralysis of vocal cords by Dulcamara. Overjoyed at the results the Maharaja became the royal patronage of homeopathy in India. Dr. Honigberger who had learnt homeopathy from Dr. Hahnemann himself started practice in Calcutta.  
     
  Samuel Brooking in 1847 had the courage to open a homeopathic hospital in Tanjore, South India. He was a retired Medical Officer. Official recognition came from 1937 onwards when the government passed a series of resolutions. In 1954 Government constituted a Homeopathic Advisory Committee. In 1956 Advisory Committee was taken over by Minister of Health and Secretary and the ministry Of Health became its 1st chairman. Dr. K.G.Saxena was appointed its first Honorary Homeopathic Advisor in 1962. In 1973 Central Act was passed which recognized homeopathy as a system of medicine.  
     
  Stalwarts like Babu Rajendra Lall Dutta, Mahendra Lall Sircar and Dr. P.C Majumdar helped to spread homeopathy.Dr.M.L.Dhawale did pioneering work in homeopathy in the sixties and seventies.Homeopathy seems to be of great value in treating the large rural base of population where sophisticated investigations are not easily available. Today homeopathy in India has percolated in the rural as well as the urban areas. There are 162 colleges with a central council and graduate and postgraduate courses in place.
